The process of ground engineering assessment, design and construction, and how these aspects dovetail into the RIBA stages (RIBA Plan of Work (architecture.com), is complex and presents a potential for misunderstanding, dispute and liability.

The chart in this document aims to summarise this process.  To promote a better understanding in all relevant parties (client, architect and other specialist advisors, designers and the construction team) the chart identifies the usual ground engineering activities at each stage.
