This short paper has been prepared by the AGS for the SGV Task Force. Its objective is to illustrate the extent and nature of contaminated land in England and Wales and the potential impact that Soil Guideline Values (SGVs) could have on the need for and scope of remediation of such land. Various sources both published and unpublished have contributed useful data. However, it is recognised that other relevant data exists which has not been captured by this current work which was primarily aimed at providing the basis of an ‘overview’ presentation to the SGVTF meeting on the 13th July 2006.
