From Data Silos to Shared Insight: The AGS Digital Transformation of Ground Data Working Group

15th Dec 2026 11:00
Duration: 2hr

From Data Silos to Shared Insight: The AGS Digital Transformation of Ground Data Working Group is a two-hour CPD webinar taking place on Tuesday 15th December at 11am.

The AGS Digital Transformation of Ground Data Working Group is working towards a future in which ground data is seamlessly connected, transparently shared and intelligently interpreted throughout the infrastructure lifecycle. This webinar will introduce the group’s vision and provide an update on its work to raise awareness, build industry consensus and support practical change across data sharing, standards, governance, interoperability, skills and industry capability.

Chaired by Vicky Corcoran, (Associate Engineering Geologist at AtkinsRéalis and Digital Transformation of Ground Data Working Group Leader), the session will explore current policy and industry developments affecting the discovery, access and reuse of ground data. This will include an update on activities relating to the Ground Data for Growth Bill, which proposes wider sharing of ground investigation information, and the group’s response to the government Call for Evidence, The marginal cost restriction on public sector data re-use.

The Call for Evidence considered whether public bodies should have greater flexibility to charge above marginal cost for the reuse of public sector data, with important implications for access to foundational geological, geospatial and infrastructure datasets. This virtual event will also cover our collaboration with the British Geological Survey, a potential amendment to the UK Specification for Ground Investigation, and other activities. Delegates will gain a clearer understanding of the changing ground-data landscape and the practical role they can play within it.

The webinar will help attendees consider how ground data is shared and reused in their day-to-day work, identify opportunities to improve data quality and interoperability, and contribute to stronger data governance and more consistent information management across projects and organisations. They will also learn why data sharing is likely to become increasingly important in future as we adopt the second generation Eurocodes and increasingly embed AI into our workflows.

The webinar will benefit geotechnical and geoenvironmental professionals, engineering geologists, ground-investigation practitioners, infrastructure owners and operators, designers, contractors, data managers, information-management specialists, policy professionals and anyone who creates, manages or uses ground data. Attendees will gain insight into the developments likely to influence future industry practice and how they can support a more connected, collaborative and data-driven approach to infrastructure delivery.
