A happy New Year to you all and welcome to the January issue of the AGS Magazine. I hope you have had a restorative break, and you enjoy reading this month’s Magazine.

It’s time to get your cameras out as we are launching another Photography Competition! You are hopefully familiar with the invaluable free tool that is the AGS Loss Prevention Guidance. We are updating the guidance this year and are seeking a creative image reflective of our industry to have pride of place on the front cover. Read on for more details.

In this magazine edition we highlight the issue of machinery-related hazards in ground investigation and how to manage the associated risks. You will also find a summary of the survey carried out by the collaborative Procurement of Ground Investigation Steering Group, together with exploration of the implications identified for our industry.

You can read up on the activities of your peers as we feature an insight into the life of a Senior Geotechnical Engineer within one of the UK’s geotechnical and contaminated land specialist companies, and an informative Q&A session with a Geo-environmental Consultant with Arcadis.

You can also read up on the success of our recent industry events, many of which are available to view retrospectively, and which are reaching a wide and diverse audience in many countries. Do make a note of the up-coming AGS events including our series of on-line seminars. I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible either virtually or in person in the months to come.
