Guidance on Fire Safety

Fires can and do kill, injure and cause serious human suffering.

Whilst much of our work is in the open air, the potential dangers are particularly severe on many construction sites, where high-risk activities such as hot work can be combined with circumstances where fires can spread quickly and escape may be difficult.

There must be a good level of understanding and co-operation between all those who have a role in the development, management and application of fire safety standards on construction sites. Please read the guidance further for more information on fire prevention and legislation.
