Electrical cables, gas pipes, pipelines, optic fibres cables, water pipes and sewers all present a risk to safety where work involves penetrating the ground. Where such work is undertaken precautions must be in place to reduce the risk to people and to protect commercial interests. In addition to the health and safety risk, striking services has a financial impact. The financial losses may not be covered by insurance unless robust procedures are in place and followed.
